A powerful article from the current Economist on the wretched state of the government's accounts,a situation brought about by Republican incompetence, profligacy, and dishonesty. And as Eric Alterman (from whose blog I was tipped off about this item) points out:
-The cost of the Iraq War is not factored into the deficit.
-The current administration has presided over the biggest swing from
surplus to deficit in U.S. history.
And these are the "conservatives"? Not the kind I grew up with.
No wonder the truly conservative Economist endorsed John Kerry last fall.
