Left-Wing Creationism

I find things in the strangest places because of the tangential nature of the Web. I saw a comment on a thread in Washington Monthly and it led to a post in Gene Expression. It's an excellent article about a bizarre and persistent phenomenon: the refusal of some on the political left to acknowledge the role of genetics in the shaping of human behavior. In my view, the evidence shows that human behavior is a continuously interactive combination of cultural and biological influences, but the reality of latter influence is rejected rather vehemently by many. Check out this and see what you think.

There is no creation science; there is no Marxist science; there is no feminist science; there is just science. Period.

It was right on the money. Who are you, o mysterious Tangoman? Do write regularly for Gene Expression? Your article was truly good stuff.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I blog regularly at Gene Expression. For regular readers of our blog, it goes without saying that we slam very hard at ID/Creationism but we also slam pretty hard at Left Creationism too, you know - evolution stopped at the neck, and that doesn't make us any friends on the Left or on the Right, LOL.

At the risk of appearing gauche and tooting our own horn I offer up a few links on the off-chance that you're at all interested in some other topics that touch on the one you linked to. I'd suggest Anti-Racist Math (follow the links for the follow-ups, especially the one detailing a graduate level course in how to teach anti-racist math) or Can H-BD Doctors Save Lives or The Adoption Controversy or this one about genetic screening results for deafness being withheld from parents because advocates for the deaf have lobbied that deafness is not a disability. Then there are the more political posts I do, like universities importing affirmative action students to make their diversity numbers look more favorable. And for a flavor of the technical there is this type of post on whether allele frequencies between populations are positively correlated or not.

Also, along the theme of left creationism is our extensive coverage of the Larry Summers controversy.

We welcome commentators of any political inclination but do note at the top right of our site the notes You Should Know About Us and Spirit of the Site. Did you see the news coverage of the Ashkenazi IQ paper?

All very un-PC, so consider yourself forewarned :) I comment frequently at Kevin Drum's on topics dealing with genetics, so maybe we'll bump into each other there or even at GNXP.

The links aren't working, but I'll try accessing in other ways.

Some work is being done on the server, so things are down for the moment. Sorry.

If you ever need to reach any of us, the e-mail(s) are on the side bar - saves us from the 'bots.
