VICTORY!!

The Democrats won the House of Representatives, gaining 25-35 seats. Santorum went down, Blackwell went down BIG, Harris in Florida went down by a MILLION, and the Senate might--might--be in our grasp. The Democrats won BIG!!

Thank you America!! Thank you!!

V for Victory! And now for the icing on the cake: Per a radio address this morning, Rummie's out. I have to say, when questioned about it Prez B sounded pretty asinine - especially in light of his prior 'stand by your man' approach to Rumsfeld's blundering. But I suppose that under the circumstances looking foolish (or sounding, anyway) is to be expected.

But I can't say that I'm sympathetic.

Has it occurred to anyone else that elections have been getting more unbalanced as the districts become more artificial. I know it's a huge can of worms, but could the Democrats get the ball rolling on an redistricting system that is actually fair and serves the population, not just the party in power? (I know better than to suggest that the Self-Interest Party might do it.)

Update: Allen concedes; Webb wins virginia senate race. Democrats now have majorities in both houses!

By the way, I don't think I follow you, annie. In particular, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'more artificial'. Aren't all political districts arbitrary? More to the point, they're political - they are created via a political process, they exist only to further political ends, and they ostensibly represent political affiliations of their members. In fact, by definition they must be; how could it be otherwise?

This isn't to say that they can't be abused for political ends - they obviously can. But I think that your suggestion that artificiality is the problem is a red herring. As I see it the problem lies in providing adequate safeguards to limit their misuse.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Joe, as payment for all your well-founded rampant griping over the last 6 years, I think the bare minimum your loyal readers deserve from you at this point is a video of you doing a victory dance in your boxers.

Get on that shit pronto!
