I think the UAW should get residuals, too. Every time a car is resold, they should get another payment. Shakespeare's family would love the idea of residuals. Talk about driving up the price of an education. The idea of residuals is ridiculous. You got paid for your services and that's it. If you want ownership rights, then the Writers Guild should take the risk to produce their own shows. Either that or give the money back when the show is a flop.
I don't think the UAW analogy is pertinent here. The writers are asking for a cut of the huge amount of money the networks are making off of their efforts when shows are sold online. Authors get paid when their work is reproduced in book form. Why not in DVD or online form?
